This style combines colour, pattern, and fluffy textures to create unique results. Not only is this artsy interior decorating trend all over TikTok and Instagram, it’s also popping up everywhere from Etsy to Urban Outfitters. If you’re feeling crafty, you can even get in on the action yourself.

COVID lockdowns for 2020 have prompted a lot creativity and DIY projects, including hand-tufted rug making. The trend was first started by TikTok users who discovered the tufting guns, which are a tool for creating your own rugs. These rugs allowed for a new way of expressing your personality and style at home. You can create unique, hand-tufted rugs unlike anything you’d find anywhere else.
Crafters soon realized that the tufting guns were not limited to rugs. You can now tuft jackets, wall hangings, and other items. When you see how gorgeous some tufted rugs are — like the floral Tufted Jardin Rug from Anthropologie and the Loloi Optimism Sunset Rug — you can see why people would want to hang these up in a more prominent location. Wall hangings and tufted rug are very interchangeable, so they can be used in either direction.

How to make a Tufted Wall Art in Your Home
You can find tuftted wall art in almost every design you could imagine, such as traditional fringed tapestries and painted works. You’ll find the full spectrum on Etsy, ranging from small creations that cost as little as $25 to oversized works of art with price tags over $1,000. The tufted vase and flower piece from Molly Pilkington is our favorite, as well as the Punch Needle characters created by Meg Design Studio TR and Jaime Derringer’s vibrant Butterfly Eye. Options for retailers such as West Elm, World Market and Overstock are also available.
It is simple to integrate tufted wall art in your home. Treat them as framed art. You can use them to add color and pattern to your home, to draw attention to certain areas, or to give a wall a lot more personality. Use tufted art in small sizes to mix and match with other framed pictures, drawings, and paintings. Its tactile appeal is what’s great about tufted decor. Don’t be surprised if your guests want to reach out and touch it!
DIY Tufted Textiles
Who cares if you’re never as good at tufting as artists like Caroline Rose Kaufman (who makes some of the coolest tufted wall hangings around)? It’s fun just to experiment and try something new. And who knows, maybe you’ll find that you’re a tufting genius after all.
When supplies were scarce, tufting was once an uncommon hobby. The popularity of the art is growing and there are now countless tufting kit options that allow you to make your own tufted decorations. Tuft the World, Tuft Love, Amazon and Tuft the World all offer starter kits in tufting that range between $180 and $365.
