Cisco AnyConnect can be uninstalled on your Mac

If you’ve installed Cisco AnyConnect on your Mac, or you’ve inherited a Mac, perhaps from a workplace, that has AnyConnect on it, you may want to install it. As Cisco AnyConnect is an enterprise tool designed for large businesses, if your Mac is for personal use, you won’t need it, and you can go ahead and uninstall it. In this article, we’ll show you exactly how toDo that.

Cisco AnyConnect: What does it mean?

If you’ve never heard of it before, you may be wondering what AnyConnect is. The short answer is that it’s a client security tool that allows Macs to connect to an organization’s (usually the company they work for) VPN and then access the company networks. AnyConnect, which is now a very popular tool for businesses to give employees the ability to connect to a company’s VPN and access other assets, such as content management systems or shared drives.

Why should AnyConnect be uninstalled?

As with any application, it’s good practice to uninstall it when you no longer need it. As the application has not been updated, this frees up space.

Cisco AnyConnect manual removal

To manually uninstall AnyConnect, there are two components. First, you need to delete the Application Binary (the file found in your Applications folder). Second, you need to delete all files that are scattered around your startup disk.

Cisco AnyConnect is now available.

To run the AnyConnect uninstaller, simply double-click on it. You don’t need to do anything further.

If you don’t have the uninstaller, or it doesn’t work, drag AnyConnect from your Applications folder to the Trash.

You will now need to locate all files AnyConnect placed on your startup disc. Click on Go in the Finder and select Go to Folder.

Enter each address in the text box. Press Return. You can do them one by one. Next, locate any folders or files that have AnyConnect or Cisco written in them and drag them into the Trash.

Cisco AnyConnect: The easy way to get it removed

The manual process of uninstalling AnyConnect is complicated and time-consuming. There is an easier method. Start CleanMyMac X, and then go to the Uninstaller section.

Find the app that you wish to remove, such as Cisco AnyConnect.

The box is located next to your application.

You can click Uninstall.

Isn’t that much easier than uninstalling AnyConnect manually?
If you’ve already tried to uninstall AnyConnect but haven’t been able to get rid of all the files, you can use CleanMyMac X’s Leftovers feature to get rid of them.

Select the Uninstaller module.

Klick on Leftovers at the bottom pane.

You can select the remaining ingredients from the right-hand pane.

You can click Uninstall.
